Norwegian Ibsen Company
Henrik Ibsen is the most performed dramatist in the world after William Shakespeare, however until recently Norway never had a professional Ibsen Company like The Royal Shakespeare Company or The Globe. Henrik Ibsen’s oeuvre is one of Norway’s most important cultural treasures so Kåre Conradi, one of Norway’s leading actors on Ibsen and a life-time employee at The National Theatre of Norway, decided to take a crucial initiative to establish a dedicated Norwegian Ibsen company. The co-production of About Peer with The National Theatre of Norway was one of the highlights of The International Ibsen Festival 2012.
Each of Ibsen’s plays speak to all of us, and the company’s goal is to communicate these stories out with conviction and power. The Norwegian Ibsen Company will present Ibsen’s works to a high professional level, with the country’s leading Ibsen interpreters on stage. The actors will be bilingual, English and Norwegian.
The Norwegian Ibsen Company AS was established with the aim to explore the many layers of Henrik Ibsen’s intense dramas.
The company is based in Norway and is associated with a number of artists with experience and knowledge of Ibsen. The company shall, in addition to its own productions, work towards a resource and expertise exchange between Norwegian and foreign actors and directors through co-productions, guest performances, lectures, seminars and workshops.
The Norwegian Ibsen Company will also produce targeted material geared towards audiences who don’t initially have any knowledge of or interest in Ibsen, with special focus on children and youth.
With many projects to come we hope you will follow us on this exciting journey connecting Ibsen to audiences and performers all over the world.
