The Lady from the Sea, directed by Marit Moum Aune and starring Pia Tjelta, captivated both audiences and critics when it premiered in London in 2019.
On 19 July 2025, the performance premieres in Norway for the first time, in a powerful and specially adapted version – created for the spectacular surroundings of Fjæreheia Amphitheatre. This will be the fourth performance from the Norwegian Ibsen Company in the unique outdoor stage in the granite field in Grimstad.
Pia Tjelta once again takes the lead role as Ellida, the woman who is pulled between duty and freedom, between the security of the country and the infinite power of the sea. Tjelta was nominated in the Best Female Performance category for the role, one of several nominations for the play at the British Off West End Awards (Offies). In addition, Nils Petter Molvær, one of Norway’s most internationally renowned musicians, is behind the music.
