This production has been further adapted after its success in London to fully take advantage of the spectacular surroundings that Bruddet in Fjæreheia offers.
Pia Tjelta once again takes on the lead role as Ellida, a woman torn between duty and freedom, between the safety of the land and the endless power of the sea. Tjelta was nominated in the category of Best Female Performance for the role, one of several nominations the play received at the British Off West End Awards (Offies).
It is one of Norway’s leading directors — Marit Moun Aune — who is directing. She has a long list of acclaimed theater productions, TV series, and ballet performances, and in the coming years she will lead the National Theatre.
Together with the strong artistic team, including Nils Petter Molvær, one of Norway’s most internationally renowned musicians, who is responsible for the music, she will create a production that will be widely talked about.
The Lady from the Sea tells the story of Ellida, trapped in a marriage but drawn to the sea—and a past that calls her. A powerful and timeless drama about finding your own path, loving what is not yours, and challenging society’s expectations.
The Lady from the Sea was a play that shocked audiences in 1889 — and still strikes deeply today. Come to Bruddet Fjæreheia to experience Pia Tjelta and a star cast in Marit Moum Aune’s bold direction.
