The critically acclaimed production returns to the quarry outside Grimstad from July 20th to 27th. Expect an extraordinary experience in the summer darkness.

Nils Golberg Mulvik reprises his turn as Peer Gynt, Birgitte Victoria Svendsen portrays Mor Åse, and Ellen Dorrit Petersen once again takes on the role of Knappestøperen. New names this year include Per Christian Ellefsen as Den Fremmede, Reidar Sørensen as Dovregubben, and artist and singer Maria Arredondo as Solveig. In addition, the stage will be filled with numerous local dancers and extras.

This is an intensely visual Peer Gynt that begins after dusk to make use of the atmosphere brought on during the summer nights on a stage like Fjæreheia. In Kim Sørensen’s hands, this production is full of humor, satire, and irony, while still treating the classic text with the respect it deserves.

Three Generations Sørensen

While Kim Sørensen directs, his father Reidar Sørensen returns to Fjæreheia as the Mountain King, and his son and grandson, Lucas Sørensen Junger, takes on the role of Begriffenfeldt.

“I am looking forward to revisiting Fjæreheia and Peer Gynt! I have many fond memories from here, and especially that I have the opportunity to share the experience with my family makes it even more exciting,” says Reidar Sørensen.

New Elements in This Year’s Production

Kåre Conradi, Artistic Director of the Norwegian Ibsen Company, is excited about this summer’s performances in the old quarry in Fjæreheia.
“There are many things we want to do with the Peer Gynt production in Fjæreheia this year that we couldn’t do last year,” says Conradi. “For that reason, we are presenting a revised version of the production this summer and have also added a group of new actors, which can make it interesting for those who saw last year’s production to come again this year,” he adds.

New Initiatives for Fjæreheia

Grimstad Municipality has taken over the management of Fjæreheia Amfi and has entered into a three-year agreement with the Norwegian Ibsen Company, who will be responsible for the artistic content. Based on the success of last year, Peer Gynt will be performed again this year, while next year will bring a new Ibsen production.

“The fact that Grimstad Municipality has taken over the management and continues to invest in Fjæreheia is fantastic. We are ready to fill the arena with both music and performing arts, and we believe the potential is significant, also to reach beyond national borders,” concludes Conradi.
