Plans for Henrik Ibsen 200th anniversary announced in London

Mar 11, 2026

Henrik Ibsen’s 200th Anniversary Begins in Skien

The Norwegian Ibsen Company, led by Kåre Conradi, will present the opening production of the 2028 Ibsen Jubilee. An Enemy of the People will premiere in Skien — Henrik Ibsen’s birthplace — on March 20, 2028, marking the 200th anniversary of the playwright’s birth.

The initiative was recently launched in London at the residence of the Norwegian Ambassador, in connection with the performance An Evening with Peer Gynt at The Coronet Theatre in Notting Hill. The production played to sold-out audiences and was universally critically acclaimed.

The ambition is clear; to elevate Ibsen’s dramatic works both nationally and internationally, and to bring his legacy to life for new generations. At the same time, organisers emphasise the importance of broad collaboration. A jubilee of this scale requires a national effort, bringing together public institutions and private partners.

Skien will serve as a central cultural hub for the celebrations, with new initiatives focused on Ibsen interpretation, museums and cultural venues. In a time marked by uncertainty and rapid change, Ibsen’s themes may be more relevant than ever.

Kåre Conradi’s ‘Ibsen For Children’ books

Feb 10, 2026

Ibsen for Children is a brand new series that springs from the thought behind Shakespeare for children. Actor and Artistic Director of The Norwegian Ibsen Company Kåre Conradi has lived many years in the UK and has always wondered why the magic of letting children into the world of Shakespeare’s collected works has never been done with Henrik Ibsen.

Book number three A Doll’s House is in the making and the two previous books have already been translated in to several languages.

THE STORY OF PEER GYNT: AN EVENING WITH KÅRE CONRADI

Feb 2, 2026

Norwegian star Kåre Conradi’s critically acclaimed one-man dramatised lecture about one of Ibsen’s most famous and colourful characters, Peer Gynt.

Since discovering the play at 17, Conradi has had a passionate connection with Peer Gynt. In just over an hour, he moves effortlessly between storyteller and the feckless Peer himself to shed new light on Ibsen’s legendary play.

“Conradi is an outstanding actor – there are sudden shifts across a wide expressive range, where Conradi displays his versatility.” – Dagbladet

Peer Gynt is the story of a charming but lazy and arrogant young man who leaves home to seek his fortune. Embarking on a series of fantastic voyages around the world, he has one incredible adventure after another. This charismatic stripped back performance goes to the core of what makes Ibsen one of the most performed writers in the world.

“Energetic and compelling, Conradi’s a natural storyteller.” – Broadway Baby

7.30pm, 19 to 21 February 2026. By Henrik Ibsen, adapted by Elisabeth Gording and Kåre Conradi.

Running Time: Approx 70 mins with no interval.

Tickets: £40, £30, £20 standard. Up to 20% off for members.
